How can an email marketing freelancer help you?
+ example services you can ask for depending your situation.
When I started writing this post, it was coming out quite similar to something I’ve already published: Should you DYI your email marketing or Hire a freelancer? but that wasn’t the right angle.
In that post, I pro/con if you should hire a freelancer or not, but here I want to focus on identifying the types of services you can look for depending on your current challenge with email marketing.
When hiring an email marketing freelancer…
what services to look for:
Beginner:
👶A total beginner to email marketing with little understanding of the commitment and strategy required.
Service to look for: Help setting up an account, creating a system, and strategy. Help to manage emails, either until you’re ready to do it yourself or on an ongoing basis.
🚴A beginner that knows what they want to get out of it, but needs help making it happen: the “how” implementation.
Service to look for: A consistent retainer and/or help build a strategy to manage your email marketing along with the rest of your marketing.
👷♀️You want help figuring it out so that you can do it yourself.
Service to look for: A consulting hour or a series of appointments where you get all your questions answered. Alternatively, after the first free consultation, you could agree on a package.
Experienced:
👨💼You have email sorted, but you need some time back from email reallocated somewhere else in the business and life, it’s time to delegate.
Service to look for: A consistent retainer to manage your email marketing on your behalf. A virtual assistant could also help you take your hands off other tasks and give time back.
👩💻You don’t prioritise email, even though you know it’s important for your business. This results in inconsistent comms and unclear messaging.
Service to look for: A retainer to keep you on track, someone that helps you make the email happen so you must deliver the info to them on time. A virtual assistant that takes some of the other work off your hands so you have priority time for email. An email strategy session/workshop to help position email in your business so that it becomes a priority.
🏋️You need help to make your email marketing efforts more purposeful and strategic and move away from ad hoc messaging.
Service to look for: Strategy work to understand what you’re doing, why and how it fits into your business. Analytical report of your current offer to determine what works and what doesn’t and recommendations on what to change.
Got something on your mind about your emails? Wonder if you should send more or less emails? You name it, let’s talk about it.
We can spend some time diving into your email stats, look at your automations, or get some clarity on your email strategy and its fit in your business. It’s totally free, I am here to help.

When to know if you’re not ready to hire help:
Ultimately this comes down to two things: will you be able to let the specialist you hired do their job? do you have time to onboard them?
Trust:
Can you let go of all power, take the advice and trust the process?
Because if you cannot, it’s better to not hire a specialist, as it will simply cause frustration to both of you.
Time:
A person can only do as good a job as the information they have so be prepared to take time to onboard them and teach them about your business.
Hope you have a sunny weekend 🌞
