I am staring at my list of blog ideas and yet I have nothing to give.
Yesterday, I attended a pretty interesting webinar on deliverability, but I have nothing to say about it.
I have read several articles that I genuinely found interesting, yet nothing strikes inspiration.
Mind blank.
So what do I write about?
Letâs go meta and talk about what to talk about when you feel like you have nothing to say.
Go back to your goal
When you originally created a strategy for your newsletter, you set a goal - review that.
What can you share with your audience that helps you reach that goal?
Repurpose social media content
You donât need to create original content every time. You can repurpose your social media content for your email marketing.
Take a post that worked well or that has an important message and convert it into an email. You can even link to the social media post itself to gain engagement.
Share resources from other sources
Who said you need to have all of the original ideas?
I read lots of email-related content on beehiiv, MailerLite and other platforms. There is nothing wrong with sharing what you read with your audience, chances are theyâll find it valuable too.
Really good Resource from beehiiv btw: Newsletter Writing 101
Share your own resources
So what if 5% of your audience has already seen your free resource? Send it to the rest of the list and remind them of this amazing thing you have.
Heck, send it again to those who have already seen it and ask how they found it.
Do a roundup
You have blogs and/or social media posts that you can share in your email.
Donât worry about repeating yourself or that your subscribers have already seen it - no one pays that much attention to what we do (except us).
Most people donât follow us on all our channels anyway, nor do they religiously read everything you post.
Group a bunch of themed or best-performing content and pop that into your newsletter.
Ask something
No, donât go creating a full-on survey with multiple steps. Just ask them to do one thing, for example:
Share your newsletter with a friend
Share your newsletter online
Hit reply and answer a question, like:
What was your biggest struggle this week?
What are you working on next?
Recommend pet-friendly holiday destinations
Rate your newsletter (use dynamic features for ease)
Vote on a topic for your blog or next resource
Etc, etc, etc. You can be funny too, not everything needs to be serious.
Donât send anything
Itâs your newsletter, you donât have to send anything if it doesn't feel right.
Most importantly, donât send âjust anythingâ for the sake of it. Itâs worse than waiting a few days until youâve figured out something interesting and valuable to share.
â
Hey, this didnât turn out too bad for having writersâ block ;)
Can you share this with a freelance or self-employed friend of yours? Iâd really appreciate it đ
