Have you ever spent too much time researching and choosing “the right” email marketing tool for you?
Yeah, me too.
Many of us get sucked into this deep, dark rabbit hole.
I’ve already written about how to choose the right platform for you over here if you’re currently stuck in this step:
-
The bottom line is: choose the platform that’s right for you and what you want to achieve. Which is why I am moving away from Substack.
Why I’m moving from Substack
I absolutely love the interface, the blank background, and the simplicity of the tool. But it is not serving my goals right now.
I chose Substack to be a merge between a blog and email because I needed to start somewhere, and that’s always more important (I think), than falling into decision fatigue and doing nothing.
I struggled with the same things everyone else does:
What do I write about?
Will anyone read it?
Can I stay consistent? etc.
So I picked one tool, committed to writing content consistently, and learned along the way.
Unfortunately for me, I realised that Subtack does not provide me with the discoverability I was hoping for. It does not list the blogs on Google and hence does nothing for my SEO.
And as it is an important goal for me, I am choosing to move away from it right now.
Where am I moving the blog to?
I chose to undergo a bigger task of revamping my website as well as move away from Substack. All to work towards my goal to improve my Google searchability and SEO.
Now, there is a competitor tool to Substack called Beehiiv that is very similar in its functionality of mixing emails and blogs together. They focus hugely on growth and therefore have more functions around audience growth, being found on Google and collaborating with others to grow the audience network.
It would be an easy move, to be honest, Beehiiv even has an easy way to move all your content from Substack. But keeping my long-term goals in mind (and having explored the platform to understand it), that’s not where I am going.
It could be the right move for you, though, so remember to always consider your own business goals and don’t do something for the hype.
The weekly Email Fridays will still exist and be delivered to your inbox every Friday as usual. Just not from Substack.
What’s the point of me telling you this?
I want you to know that next week you’ll be getting a new format of Email Fridays from a different email marketing platform, so that you are aware.
To remind you that you can change and that your original choice of email marketing platform doesn’t need to be the last one.
Now, go pick a platform for your newsletter and get started. Something is better than nothing, you will evolve and improve with time.
Have a fab weekend!
